Unique Dog Accessories, Handmade in Guatemala
Marjolaine (Mayo) is a certified veterinary technician from Montreal. She is also a dog trainer, and worked with Veterinarians Without Borders in Guatemala from 2006-2010. She fell in love with Guatemala’s vibrant textiles, fresh fruits, flowers and incredible erupting volcanoes, and moved to Guatemala in 2011.
After moving to Guatemala, Mayo started a business called El Chucho Feliz (which translates to "The Happy Pup" in Guatemalan slang) in 2012, offering dog training. The business quickly expanded to doggie play dates and then boarding. She has successfully become second Mom to hundreds of happy dogs! El Chucho Feliz continues to thrive in Antigua, Guatemala, to this day.
Mayo has a slight obsession with Guatemalan textiles, and she decided to combine her love for textiles with her love for dogs. She is constantly on the hunt in the local markets, buying used textiles from local woman in in order to repurpose these beautiful works of art.
Lea is Guatemalan-American born in Texas but raised in California. Growing up, starting as a very small baby, she visited her Guatemalan family frequently. After falling more and more in love with the country, she finally decided to call Antigua home in 2015 as an adult. The brightly colored textiles and styles unique to this country always caught her eye. She studied at FIDM Los Angeles, graduating with a degree in Visual Communications, and she spent ten years styling and doing wardrobe for the costume and film industry before moving to Antigua. Integrating her love for textiles, design, and Guatemala, Lea started her own line before meeting Mayo. They soon discovered their mutual love of dogs, culture and design.
